Fundraising for K-14 Students

About the Energy Fundraiser

The Great Lakes K-14 Energy Education Program (GLEEP) is working to coordinate a fundraiser that is profitable, educational, fun and good for the environment. Michigan students have used the money raised to improve program activities, support community members in need, and fund student field trips. GLEEP is proud to offer a fundraiser that helps Michigan students and schools, while educating citizens about energy efficiency.

About ENERGY STAR Qualified Products

By choosing ENERGY STAR qualified products you are making a lasting difference on the world in which we live.

ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs, for example, are made through advanced technology producing superior energy efficiency and high quality lighting at a very cost effective price.  CFLs last up to 10 times longer than incandescent light bulbs and use up to 70 percent less energy. That equals savings between $28 and $60 on a household’s utility bill over the lifetime of the bulb. Because CFLs produce the same amount of light while using less energy, they produce less heat, making homes less expensive to cool in the hot summer months.

Why Organize a Energy Fundraiser with Your Students?

1. Students Earn Money
In these challenging financial times, this fundraiser can be a valuable way to supplement student activities in a productive and profitable way. For every item sold, you determine the amount of profit your group will make. .

2. Your Community Saves Money
Since energy products use up to 70 percent less energy the people who purchase products from you will reduce their utility bills and save money and energy. Imagine the long-term savings!

3. Everyone Helps the Environment
Your students will be promoting a simple change that helps protect the environment while they gain a better understanding of the role of energy in their lives. Since many of these products use less electricity it results in fewer fossil fuels being burned. Burning fossil fuels such as coal releases carbon dioxide or CO2  (a greenhouse gas that contributes to global climate change). By using just one CFL you can prevent the equivalent of 1,500 pounds* of CO2 from entering our atmosphere.  *Research by PA Government Services for Focus Programs.
